Why Adopt Older Children

Why would anyone adopt a 12 year child inter country, why not just do it here in the states?  Why would you take them from their culture, the only place they have ever known? This was said to me by a social worker today!  Well, let me just say..... PhilCunningham (co founder of Steps of Justice) tweeted this evening..... "Sitting in the border line and witnessed a guy trying to sell a 12 year old girl for sex. The police came and arrested him in front of me"

Well, let me just say, take them from their culture, all they have ever known, abandonment, 4 walls of the compound of the orphanage to be released at 18 to a life of prostitution.  REALLY?

Really, Ms. Social Worker, it is not all fun and games, its going to be a lot of work and more than just counseling?  Let me remind you, we have been paper pregnant for nearly 22 months and have FOUGHT hard in this process as advocates for our daughters.  We believe that it is our role to advocate in the here and now for our soon to be daughters, so they are not left to a culture of neglect, slavery and forgotten because their issues are to great to care for"

Adoption is NOT a fairy tale. It is NOT a trend, It is NOT easy, It is NOT admirable. People who adopt are NOT special. Adoption is a choice, a commitment and for us it is a response.  Caring for the least of these is what Jesus did.  I do not walk around flaunting that I am a christian and rambling off ALL that I do and believe.  Instead I try (and although I fail, I get up and try again with grace) to live as Jesus did.  Caring for the least of these is what He did and in the Bible there are 2100 references to caring for the poor and vulnerable.  Need I say more about why we desire to adopt older children?

LOVE

"To love at all is to be vulnerable. Love anything and your heart will be wrung and possibly broken. If you want to make sure of keeping it intact you must give it to no one, not even an animal. Wrap it carefully round with hobbies and little luxuries; avoid all entanglements. Lock it up safe in the casket or coffin of your selfishness. But in that casket, safe, dark, motionless, airless, it will change. It will not be broken; it will become unbreakable, impenetrable, irredeemable. To love is to be vulnerable."

Drum Roll PLEASE!!!!!

1 yr, 8 months, 2 weeks, and 2 days LATER....... I am still paper pregnant, HOWEVER, I just went into paper labor...... We just received our RESOLUTION, which is the document that states, we have passed all the test, we are fit to parent children.

So the labor has begun, the due date is determined by another series of steps once we receive our referral!  So while some ladies, perhaps those of the Duggar convictions, are potentially ready to deliver baby number 2 during our paper pregnancy, we have just received word that we are in labor.  Good thing we have a document to tell us, because my heart has felt like it has been in labor for months now.  Oh, I love my GIRLS!
